Brown Arts Institute (BAI)
Exhibition
NOTE: This page is under development. Below is a passage I wrote about graphic design work I completed for an artist gathering at the BAI.
the dead teach me how to die by letting me wildly live was a two day gathering and temporary exhibition produced by Emergent Forest. The events centered interconnecting themes of healing, death, and burial.
Working for the Brown Arts Institute, I was tasked with designing a program constrained to a double-sided sheet of paper. I wanted to provide guests with a source of information, but also a keepsake. Inspiration came from the screenprinting process, where images are often condensed into one layer of ink for economical purposes.
Works and performaces at the event included local artists, the curators themselves, and publicly invited participants from Brown and Providence community. The list of names on the program is subtly grouped by organizers and participating artists, but adheres to the dynamic label-less-ness of the gathering.
Emergent Forest was part of the Brown Arts Institute’s inaugural IGNITE Series . Thank you to Laura Tamayo and Becci Davis (my first Visual Arts instructor at Brown) for support!
